Over 100,000 People Have Applied For A One-Way Ticket To Mars

We've spoken about Mars One before, the one-way mission to the red planet that's open for applications.  However, the fundamental question has been just who would sign up for this? Turns out that would be over 100,000 of you, and growing.

Mars One's premise is to send a team of four astronauts on a trip to Mars, where they will colonise and live out their days.  Usually, the seemingly impossible task of going there has been bringing the crew back, so the organisers have gone ahead and taken the return trip out of the equation altogether.

With the need to raise $6 billion for this mission, what people are registering for at the moment, with a set price based upon their country's GDP, is an idea.  While I've always voiced doubt as to whether this would actually happen, turns out there's plenty of people who think otherwise, including 53 Britons.

“Applicants we have received come from a very wide range of personalities, professions and ages. This is significant because what we are looking for is not restricted to a particular background. From Round 1 we will take forward the most committed, creative, resilient and motivated applicants,” said Dr. Norbert Kraft, Mars One Chief Medical Officer.

To promote the project, they've released a documentary about the project named 'One Way Astronaut.' Check out the trailer here. Rent your copy at onewayastronaut.com
