Jamaican Bobsled Team Crowdfunding To Reach Sochi Olympics
Jamaica's two-man bobsled team has successfully qualified for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, bringing back the glory days for Cool Runnings fans the world over. However, bringing the unfortunate side of the aforementioned film's plot into the 21st century, it's going to take a lot of money to get them there, which they do not have. That is where you come in.
They walk Jamaican, talk Jamaican – and they sure as hell bobsled Jamaican.
Initially, they began accepting money through PayPal to reach their required amount of $40,000. Winston Watts, the man behind the team's return to championship form, has already contributed £100,000 (around $164,000) of his own money to the effort. But in the search for the last crucial amount, they have taken to crowdfunding - inspiring Winston to actually call it "Cool Runnings - The Second Generation."
So far (early days) they've managed to raise $516 on Indiegogo, and The Dogecoin Foundation have joined in to help with their efforts. The team have been posting video diary updates of their journey to the Winter Olympics. After watching this latest update, I'd be personally offended if the Sled Gods (and Disney) don't answer the collective demand for a sequel to the film. If the title suggestions on Reddit are anything to go by, you have plenty of ideas!
