New Rising Media Will Be At Gadget Show Live @ Christmas
Just seven months ago in our vast age of infancy, we were given a fantastic opportunity to attend and cover Gadget Show Live. I am now pleased to announce that we will be popping along to London's own ExCel, entering the cornucopia of nerd behaviour, and covering Gadget Show Live @ Christmas.
“This Is Why You Don't Buy An iPad From Walmart”
We've all come across our fair share of broken or malfunctioning electronic products, no doubt, but never has it crossed my mind at least exactly how such consumables come to be in that state. If you've ever bought an iPad from a Walmart store in Pikeville, KY however, then you likely now have ammunition to form an educated guess...
MR-808: The Real Life Drum Machine
The 1980s are considered to have given birth to modern electronic music. One of the backbones was (and still is) the Roland TR-808, an early programmable drum machine. This iconic piece of hardware has been mimicked, sampled and synthesized countlessly over the past 30 years since its debut yet now Moritz Simon Geist (aka Sonic Robots) has taken this one step further.
ZTE Teases 5.9-Inch, Full HD Windows Phone Phablet
With a display of 5-inches and a quad-core 1.6 GHz processor combined with 2GB of RAM, the Galaxy Note 2 is a beast in both stature and performance. But though its magnificent size somewhere between phone and tablet (the newly-coined ‘phablet’ is apt) is likely to turn many off, it still, just about mind, works. Tipping the scales at 5.9-inch, a new Windows Phone being teased by ZTE looks to be another matter entirely.
Four Teenagers Create Urine-Powered Generator
Four Teenagers have built a urine-powered generator at the fourth annual Maker Faire Africa in Lagos, Nigeria. This is one of the more unexpected products to see at the Faire, and holds the potential to provide otherwise unattainable energy to The Third World.
Wireless 'Tooth Tattoo' Detects Potentially Harmful Bacteria Before It Enters The Body
“People are going to be bionic.” So says Princeton University’s Michael McAlpine, a firm believer of the idea that humans, possibly within just five to ten years, will wear electronic devices all over the body for various purposes. Whether it’s integrating cardiac sensors into the body to monitor abnormal beats or in this case, fixing a flexible electronic circuit atop tooth enamel to detect potentially-harmful bacteria before it ever gets the chance to enter the body.
Apple Awarded Design Patent On A Rectangle With Rounded Corners
The US Patent and Trademark Office issued Apple a design patent on rectangular devices with rounded corners.
Patent no. D670,286 pertains to the "ornamental" design of the iPad, and essentially covers a "Portable display device" that's a rounded rectangle. While it will cover Apple's claims to innovating such a design, the usefulness of such a vastly broad patent is questionable.
Microsoft Planning 7-Inch Surface Tablet For Xbox 720?
Microsoft seemingly isn’t keen on resting on its laurels any time soon. Despite just launching the Surface with Windows RT tablet to consumers across the globe, and with the Surface with Windows 8 just around the corner, the company has plans to build a 7-inch Surface gaming tablet that may well be used in conjunction with the next-generation Xbox, a la Wii U.
The 'Terminator Arm' Is The Most Advanced Robotic Prosthetic Ever
“I feel like the Terminator” is the statement coming from the once-limbless Nigel Ackland, 53, who lost his arm in an industrial accident some six years ago. He's one of just seven people in the world taking part in a four-month trial of a new hi-tech bionic arm that is being described as the most human-like limb ever. Seeing it in action, we're unwilling to disagree, it's something really quite special.
eBay Bidding War For 'A Piece Of Cardboard Shaped A Bit Like An iPhone 5' Reaches Over £200,000
The bidding for 'A piece of cardboard (shaped a bit like an iPhone 5)- USED' has been stopped at £200,100 by eBay. The product was removed on the grounds of 'false advertising' (surrounding calling it an iPhone 5); but has been claimed as a charity effort by supporter Julia McGill on her Just Giving page.
'Bounce Imaging' Ball-Shaped Camera To Help Emergency Services
As first responders face the common risk of entering areas without knowledge of the hazards they could be facing inside, US start-up Bounce Imaging have created something rather innovative to help with this situation: a ball with six cameras placed inside, instantly sending a 360-degree picture to a smartphone.
Apple Brand Loyalty Is Declining, Study Shows
An annual study conducted by Strategy Analytics has found that customer loyalty to technology superpower Apple has been found lacking, with the research highlighting a definite drop in the percentage of consumers likely to opt for a new model of the iPhone in the future.
32GB Surface With Windows RT Comes With Just 16GB Free Storage
If you’re in the market for Microsoft’s new tablet, you might want to take a little more time in making your purchasing decision. At least, for those with a library of applications, music, photos, videos and files to store. Despite Microsoft boasting the Surface is an ‘all-in-one’ PC and tablet, it appears its on-board storage capacity is really quite woeful.
Our Own Heartbeat Could Power Future Pacemakers
We've already seen scientists propose harnessing glucose within the human body could power self-sufficient medical implants, now scientists have proved our own heart beat could generate enough electricity to power pacemakers.
HTC Droid DNA Leaked, Boasts 5-Inch 1080p Display
Picture a display with the very same resolution as a 1080p big-screen TV, shrunk down to the size of your average phone-meets-tablet smartphone at 5-inches. That’s what HTC is cooking up with its latest DROID, if a new leak as reported by SlashGear is to be believed.
Apple Posts Apology To Samsung In UK Newspapers
Apple has published apology ads to Samsung in several UK newspapers, acknowledging that the iPad does not infringe upon the range of Galaxy Tab devices. This follows the recently failed appeal in the courts, and the "incorrect" statement that was posted online.
Mechanical Ceiling Recreates The Feeling Of Being Underwater
The natural subtleties of water's surface is one that many would not assume as up for technological interpretation. That was until artist David Bowen unveiled his installation Underwater: real-time wave patterns captured by a Kinect, and mapped to a mechanical ceiling for recreation.
‘Pinch’ Interface Connects Touch Devices Into One Giant Display
It might not have the sophistication of the XDesk tabletop interface, but in development by a research group at the Tokyo University of Technology, a new interface named ‘Pinch’ allows users to connect various touch-enabled devices together into one larger, mismatched but quite remarkable screen.
Google Unveils The Nexus 4
It's not hard to love Google at this particular moment in time. Behind some of the most consistently-fascinating software (Android, Google Maps, Google.com itself), the company's recent foray into hardware is a tantalising prospect. With Nexus 7 being joined by 10-inch iPad rival the Nexus 10, Google today also took to lifting the curtains on a brand-new smartphone, the Nexus 4.
Google Confirms The Rumours, Nexus 10 Announced
We knew Google had something special up its sleeve, but the specifics of what it had in store were vague at best. But in a smorgasbord of announcements coming direct from the company in the wake of the cancellation of the much-anticipated Android event, we finally have confirmation. First up, a 10-inch tablet featuring a Retina Display-topping 2560 x 1600 resolution, boasted to be the “highest resolution tablet on the planet”. Say hello to the Nexus 10...
