Samsung To Unveil The Galaxy S II’s Successor On May 3rd
Given the hugely positive reception and the unbridled success of the Galaxy S II, which had accumulated 20 million units sold by February 2012, the S III fire has been burning brightly for quite some time now. In the past few months, we’ve seen mock-ups of the smartphone’s ‘final’ design – usually replete with some monstrously-large gleaming screen (the Galaxy Note?) and little to no buttons of any kind – allowed ourselves to become overly-excited by the round of rumours circulating the inter-tubes, and even seen what many considered to be the finalised spec sheet.
Now, we have a set-in-stone date for it to be unveiled to the public.
“Come and meet the next Galaxy” is the word from the Korean tech company in official invites sent out to tech blogs, publications and journalists across the techosphere (including first Tweakers.net, DDaily and The Verge), listing a date of May 3rd and the ‘Samsung Mobile Unpacked’ event in London as the respective time and place of the next Galaxy’s highly-anticipated reveal. Interestingly, Samsung has already given us a little teaser of that very same date in a Galaxy Note advert which featured a girl eagerly tapping in a May 3rd calendar reminder. Curious.
While the name of the mobile still remains elusive, the S II’s follow-up is rumoured to feature a 5-inch super AMOLED display at a resolution of 1280x720, a quad-core in-house Exynos processor with integrated LTE and an 8 megapixel camera. With a little over two weeks to go until the event, we don’t have to wait long to find out.
