iPhone 5 Photos Show Off Taller Screen, Mini Dock, Metallic Back

 

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 might well mean we now have our hands on what the Korean company behind it label as the best smartphone currently at market, but that doesn’t mean for one second the iPhone 5 rumour mill doesn’t also get us all hot under the collar. The next-generation iPhone is still the phone of the year and, judging by these images publicised by website 9 To 5 Mac of what they believe to be the new white and black versions of the handset, it’s going to be one hell of a looker.

Having already posted images of the supposed back plates of what by rights had every chance of being from the upcoming iPhone, the new photos are discernibly more high-resolution than those prior and seem to confirm what it had previously suggested we can expect from Apple’s latest flagship phone, as well as a few more welcome aesthetic surprises.

And that means a long-rumoured smaller dock connector is present, as well as newly-redesigned speaker grills (a small yet welcome update, we assure you), a moved earphone jack from top left corner to bottom left and what looks to be a microphone opening between the camera lens and the LED flash. 9 To 5 suggests this will improve audio capture during video recording, something that has long been coming in our eyes.

Most significant in terms of the long-anticipated redesign from Apple – moving antenna bands does not constitute, iPhone 4S – is the much taller screen. Purportedly, the new iPhone will feature a screen of the same width that has come before it but one which is considerably longer, with an iPhone interface design overhaul said to be in the works to take advantage of the newly-acquired screen real estate. According to 9 To 5, the screen resolution is said to be 1136 x 640, with a screen size of 3.999 inches diagonal.

Metallic back-plates only bolster the already highly impressive and effortlessly cool look that Apple is going for, and one that is sure to guarantee the new iPhone comes with the same high-marker in the level of build quality and style that Apple is currently unmatched in pushing. No plasticky “pebble blue” finishes here, Samsung. Take note.
