#NRMPresents GameLoading: Rise Of The Indies
Independent games are quickly becoming iconic in popular culture, as the community across the globe is now welcoming the brand new experiences they bring to the table. GameLoading: Rise of the Indies looks to explore this ever expanding world in a feature-length documentary, which is gaining popularity on Kickstarter.
Following a previously successful Kickstarter campaign in mid 2013, Melbourne filmmakers Lester Francois and Anna Brady has completed the primary film shoot: visiting eleven cities in five countries to detail the huge variety of indie games and introduce the people behind them. The film takes at what exactly goes into making a game, following the excitement surrounding events like PAX & GDC, and see what the enticement is towards games of this calibre, both artistically and gameplay-wise.
It's been a pretty intense 3 months of filming for them, as they captured interviews with dozens of both high profile and up-and-coming industry figures, including everyone from Davey Wreden (The Stanley Parable) and Phil Tibitoski (Octodad), all the way to John Romero: famous for the original Doom.
While I may have a few questions myself about video games as an art form, this may throw an interesting hat into the ring of this debate while also pointing a magnifying glass at indie games and the global community to celebrate this amazing medium.
Count me in.
