iPhone 8 vs iPhone X - What Should You Buy?
Ten years on from the original, Apple announced three phones - iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Which one should you buy?
Context: I have successfully come to the end of my two-year phone contract with an iPhone 6S and, having been tied into the Apple ecosystem for a while now, the upgrade choice of phone is an obvious one for me.
Understandably, I know there are plenty more phones out there - many great Android devices including the Essential Phone, Xiaomi MX 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8. So if you have your heart on an iPhone of some sort, this guide is for you. If you have wiggle room or hate Apple devices with a passion, this guide is not for you.

And on the note of the price, it’s getting a bit ridiculous, isn’t it? Hell, we’ve been spending £1.1bn more on overpriced iPhones since 2011!
Jon Ostler, CEO of Finder UK who found this out said: “Although manufacturing and importing costs will play a part in international pricings, Apple fans in the UK are clearly getting a poor deal, especially when you consider the difference in cost for other smartphone brands is nowhere near that of an iPhone in the UK.”
“The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 for example costs just £31 more in the UK than in the US. If you’re in the market for a new iPhone your best bet right now is to wait until you next visit the states; even with state taxes on top you’re still going to get a much better deal.”
So, taking into account everything, similar tech specs and the inflated price for the first stab at a bezel-less phone shouldn’t phase you - even though the iPhone X is damn gorgeous.
Go for the iPhone 8, and for the love of God, don’t fall for the ridiculously inflated contract prices.
Get a SIM only contract and go on the Apple upgrade programme. Trust me, it should be cheaper and even if it’s the same cost as the deals released on Friday, you get the flexibility of upgrading every year.
