Blackberry "London" leaked

Forget what you thought about the traditional, rather underwhelming design motifs and hardware specifications of Blackberrys. If this image and the accompanying details leaked to The Verge are to be believed, RIM might be on there way... to further continue their position as the smartphone that had it's day; but now seems like the plucky underdog.

So first off, the specs. Of course we're speaking in either leaked facades of spilt truth: the phone is allegedly packing a TI OMAP 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB Ram, 16GB of onboard storage, 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing. The London is claimed to be thinner than the iPhone 4, roundabout the same thickness as the Galaxy S II, and is purportedly aimed for a Summer 2012 release.

As you can probably quite easily identify, this is an OS much more akin to what exists on the playbook, which'll defenitely move Blackberrys in the right direction. It would only seem logical to assume that we're looking at their new BBX operating system...it's looking rather fresh, and with the hardware design much more in the vein of the recent Porsche designed Bold, we may actually be in for quite the final stand from RIM in the smartphone space.

We've looked at the image with a fine-tooth comb for photoshop slip-ups, and it looks clean; but that doesn't mean someone's taken the whole tech journalism space for a mug (trolling), or maybe it's a prototype of a concept that'll never see the light of day? Whatever it is, it shows something of a possibly prospective future for the manufacturer who just hasn't seemed to "get it."

UPDATE. RIM is also showing two lower end devices, along with a new version of the Torch, reportedly rocking an extremely thin body for a phone with a slide-out QWERTY. Watch this space for more.
