Vita specs released by Sony

Contrary to circulating rumours that Sony was to compromise on memory and processing speed for its upcoming portable Vita, the Japanese company has recently announced the handheld's final specifications – and they’re looking rather enticing. With Nintendo’s price point for the 3DS plummeting at retail – now as low as £115 at Amazon – and with mobile gaming, 69p Apps and social games surpassing the popularity of traditional handheld titles, it was expected Sony would drop early memory estimates to suit consumers’ pockets.

Looking at the complete technical specifications; Sony has opted for a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, replete with a sizeable 512MB of RAM and 128MB of VRAM. In comparison, the PS3 has a much slighter 256MB of RAM and 256MB VRAM, meaning Vita is not only taking the crown for the most powerful handheld to date, but one of the most impressive consoles, full stop. What a difference six years makes.
