Samsung Exynos 4 Quad Processor Announced Ahead Of Next Galaxy
Ahead of the May 3rd announcement of the successor to the Galaxy S II, Samsung have announced details on the chip that will be powering the device: named the "Exynos 4 Quad."
This specs are unsurprising, in the realm of the high-end Android smartphone hardware battles.
Based on the ARM Cortex A9 used previously, this quad-core chip will run at at a speedy 1.4 GHz, with some impressive power-saving technology: built in power management and per-core dynamic voltage. This is all possible due to the 32nm size, scaling everything to a near microscopic size, leaving a strong possibility of the back of the phone heating up. Also, if you ever needed more definite proof that Samsung are planning a next gen smartphone for May 3rd, they're very words help with that:
Already in production, the Exynos 4 Quad is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung’s next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May. Samsung’s Exynos 4 Quad is also sampling to other major handset makers.
To make things easier for manufacturers to switch to this proceesor, the Exynos 4 Quad is going to be pin-to-pin compatible with the Exynos 4 Dual, alongside the capabilities of full 1080p video at 30fps (recording and playback), a HDMI 1.4 interface and an embedded image signal processor interface. With all of this, Samsung continue to tout the power efficiency and performance of their chip, claiming it will offer double the power than their last generation with 20% less power.
So we know its probably going to be a powerhouse in terms of benchmarks; but we can't help but think that something this downright powerful maybe needless in something like a smartphone. Doesn't mean we're not excited to try it out though.
