Researchers Build Robots Capable Of Evolution
A team of researchers have designed a program that allows robots to actually evolve, building themselves out of cubes of virtual muscles and bones. This simulated chain of evolution makes for a remarkable discovery in robotics that, much like Skynet, has very well doomed us all.
Created at the Cornell Creative Machine Labs, the simulated environment runs on similar rules to our own evolution: robots that move faster get to reproduce more. And since that this all runs entirely inside a computer, the speed of their generational progression can be manipulated to the point that the process of evolution can be seen in the blink of an eye. This makes for quite the innovative teaching tool to educate the principles of evolution.
Of course, as these are only simulated robots at this point in time, the future will be tangibility. Breaking their chains to the confines of a computer program. As they have been built from cubes, they can be printed rather simply on a 3D printer, making this a big possibility. Add alongside this the medical advancements, 3D printed muscles, bones and cartlidge, and you have a revolution in repairing the human body.
Simply put, these robots are capable of evolution, and could be printed in a lab out of identical tissue that makes up the human body. This is both an extremely exciting prospect, and a rather terrifying one (think of the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica).
