'The Last Of Us' Is Being Made Into A Live-Action Movie

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is being turned into a live-action movie by Sony subsidiary Screen Gems. It's easy to get excited about this classic being put to film, but many reservations are held based upon the quality of previous video game adaptations.

The game's creative director Neil Druckmann will be writing the script and with the help of various other key stakeholders in Naughty Dog, including game director Bruce Straley, according to a Deadline report. They will partner up with Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures production company, responsible for the 2013 remake of Evil Dead. This kind of collaboration is especially exciting.

"When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay," said Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper. The move was rumored last year, when Sony filed trademarks related to the film.

If you remember, we absolutely loved The Last of Us (check out our review) for the dramatic impact of its perfectly crafted storyline, which is set 20 years after the outbreak of a fungus zombie plague. It's already one of the most cinematic experiences you will ever see without even being a film, so it would be fair to say we're pretty excited.
