Short film 'Atropa' Pays Homage To 1980s Science Fiction
Atropa is a conceptual sci-fi short film, which asks more questions than it answers. From director Eli Sasich, this 10 minute homage to the '70s and '80s classics of the genre could (and should) be expanded into a full feature.
The focus is on a security officer chasing the research vessel ‘Atropa’ across the galaxy. However, adhering to the sci-fi genre conventions, things ‘just don’t seem quite right;’ the ship's calendar has the wrong date on it and the is not at the correct location. The ending brings with it only more peculiar events with no answer to them because of the short run-time.
Immediately setting a gritty gritty tone, from the tension of the performance to the excessive use of gun metal grey, this is a love letter to some of the biggest sci-fi films of the past, such as ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Alien’.
It's fair to say we are very much looking forward to see how the crew cope with whatever the hell is going on, on this vessel.
