Neil deGrasse Tyson Locates Superman's Home Planet

 

Famed American astrophysicist and much-idolised geek hero Neil deGrasse Tyson has pinpointed a very real location in our own universe for Superman's home planet. No, really.

Coming off the back of a request by the publishing powerhouse DC Comics to the world-renowned astrophysicist to find a planet that fits with the description of the Man of Steel's home planet, Krypton, Tyson points to a star system some 27.1 light years from Earth (159310747613275.78 miles away, no less), a red dwarf star (LHS 2520) in the constellation Corvus determined by Tyson to have the ability to support a Krypton-like planet.

With just vague hints from the comic books to go on, it's a truly remarkable feat that Neil deGrasse Tyson has managed to achieve, further blurring the lines between science fact and fiction. His hard work hasn't gone unrewarded, either, with the great man finding himself enter the latest issue of Action Comics #14 in a cameo role.

"As a native of Metropolis, I was delighted to help Superman, who has done so much for my city over all these years. And it's clear that if he weren't a superhero he would have made quite an astrophysicist," Tyson said in a release about the new comic.
