Facebook Blocks 'Social Roulette' App That Deletes Your Account

Within hours of its launch, a Facebook app offering users a one-in-six chance of deleting their account has been pulled.  This social media reinterpretation of Russian Roulette, named 'Social Roulette,' puts the user's Facebook account at risk of complete deletion.

Users sign into the app and await their fate, either seeing the message confirming they had survived as a status on their timeline, or watching the erase of every single bit of your Facebook data: private messages, status updates, photos, profile information, etc.  This makes it perfect for those who have felt tempted to delete their accounts and start fresh, infact they identify this in their marketing materials.

“Everyone thinks about deleting their account at some point, it’s a completely normal reaction to the overwhelming nature of digital culture. Is it time to consider a new development in your life? Launching on Saturday, the app was deleted just four hours after, following an automated system used by Facebook to identify "negative user experiences." The social network issued a statement in response to their decision to remove Social Roulette: “We take action against apps that violate our platform policies as laid out here: https://developers.facebook.com/policy/, in order to maintain a trustworthy experience for users.”

As the team have already begun to relaunch a version of the app that complies with Facebook by the end of this week, this particularly fun way of irreversibly removing yourself from social media will be in the hands of users soon enough!
