Nokia Lumia 925 Announced

Nokia have announced the Lumia 925, their latest flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone, at today's event in London.

Following all previous rumours, and yesterday's leaked images, the Finnish smartphone maker has finally taken the official wraps off the phone.  It's quite similar in design cues to the previous models in the Lumia line, but it has a twist: it's made from aluminium.  The rear of the device is still made from polycarbonate, and the front is a pane of glass; but the aluminium surround marks a new shift for Nokia's material-centric design.

With these alterations, Nokia has been able to slim down their flagship device, coming in at just 8.5mm thickness and a weight of 139 grams.  Internal specifications remain largely similar to the previous iteration, the Lumia 920, with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.  However, there are some subtle differences that differentiate this from its counterpart.

The Lumia 925 has a 4.5-inch OLED display running at 1280 x 768 resolution, and the same 8.7-megapixel PureView camera on the back; but with a sixth Lens made of glass.  This small change will combine with Nokia's new Smart Camera software, allowing you to take 10 images with a new motion focus feature.  Simply put, image backgrounds can be removed, altered or even blurred with this collection.  It's an interesting concept indeed!  Looking to the front, the Lumia 925 will have a 1.2-megapixel front facing lens.

This camera software will also be paired with some good news for those who felt lost without Instagram on Windows Phone.  Nokia also announced Hipstamatic's new app, Oggl, will arrive on Nokia Lumia smartphones, allowing people to take and share high quality pictures with like-minded creatives and photography enthusiasts from around the world. In addition to sharing photos on Oggl, users can simultaneously share photos on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr and Instagram.

The device will be made available in June, and will come in only grey or black metallic colours, making this a departure from the vivid colour choices of their previous phones.  Sales will start in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and China, with the US and other markets following thereafter.  The Nokia Lumia 925 will be priced at 469 euros in Europe.
